INTERVIEW
  • 1) What was the inspiration for creating the project for the Hotel?

The inspiration for the creation of the hotel project was the city of Montevideo itself. Seeking to confirm a proposal of hospitality based on a lifestyle of urban exploration concept. Hyatt identified the expectations of the millennium travellers. Whether they are tourists or businessmen/women. Hyatt Centric Montevideo’s mission is that our guests arrive as tourists and leave as local, creating moments where they are in contact with the local identity of the city through a genuine gastronomic, artistic and historic exploration of the Uruguayan culture.

    2) Which are the main differentials the hotel offers?

The installations and environment are the inspiration for making the guest feel at home, when out of his house. A typical Uruguayan birds nest and a library with national authors welcome the guest as if at a home, nurturing a connection with the spirit of the neighbourhood and the family. The gastronomy shows its splendour through the original O Plantado restaurant – which features an olive tree to unite families and friends around this traditional tree. The modern bar invites guest to have original cocktails with local tastes, accompanied by typical snacks. Deli is the artisanal bread show which captivates with its homely tastes, ideal spend time in or join in with the locals who routinely visit the hotel. The 178 spacious rooms with large windows offer comfort and practicality, with a view to the bay or the city. A fitness studio with a relaxation area, an up to date gym and a covered pool offer guests 24-hour service. The convention and event spaces are share the good taste and quality with the rest of the hotel, with the warm Hyatt hospitality.

    3) How have Trousseau products added value to the hotel?

The 178 rooms and suites have been equipped with extra king-sized beds, with the intention of offering the most comfortable experience during the rest period. The white Trousseau sheets are the perfect complement to enjoy the well-deserved and relaxing rest. The softness of their texture gives the sensation of a warm embrace, and as such, the “home from home” is achieved thanks to the Trousseau quality and the combination of perfect beds and mattresses which are large and spacious with the warm decorating touches only Hyatt Centric Montevideo can offer.

    4) Which activities and outings are most sought after in the region? Which are offered by the hotel?

Montevideo is an exciting and accessible city at the same time, which can dazzle the visitor with its variety of options. ‘Uruguay natural’ is the country’s slogan and as such offers an extensive coast line, green areas, rural trips just a short distance from the hotel and a gastronomical richness which is sure to please all palates. As for the most sought-after outings, we have visits to the bodegas to taste the wines from the successful Tannat grape which imposes itself as a regional reference. Trips to the historical center of the city with its colonial architecture and the antique fairs and markets; these are the most sought-after outings apart from the architectural jewellery in the centre of town such as the emblematic Salvo Palace and the Mercado Agricola. The hotel offers personalized and creative assistance to inspire the guest seeking for local culture, offering advice about these special places which allow the guest to mix in with local traditions like the typical bodegas, thematic trips such as fruit harvests or the old city with its iconic spots for eating traditional barbecue and museums, including the popular football museum.

    5) If you had only 72 hours in Marau, what would you recommend doing and seeing?

Take to the old city with time to explore the antique markets and historic buildings and an obligatory visit to the port market would be a good starting point. Further on, it would be ideal to visit a bodega which includes lunch at the restaurant to taste the wines according to the chosen dish. On the third day we suggest exploring the Montevideo Rambla, on a vintage bicycle or on foot to enjoy the sunset in the company of the people who choose the spot to share mate (a typical drink) with friends. In these 72 hours we would recommend a gastronomic tour through typical bailarino-culinary restaurants. Uruguay is a tranquil country where one enjoys oneself without rush, with time for everything.
