Introduction

The Vila Kalango is located in Jericoacoara (CE), in one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil. It is right up on the beach and beside the Por do Sol Dune, one of the main tourist attractions in Jeri, the B&B has 5 thousand m² area of lush greenery, surrounded by cashew and coconut trees.

It is totally integrated with nature, and was built with typical materials from the region, with red clay brick walls, muira catiara wooden floors and carnauba straw thatching. Sustainability is one of Vila Kalango’s priorities. The B&B has been preserving nature for the past 15 years and does its best to avoid intervening in the environment.

The B&B has 24 accommodations divided into apartments, bungalows both with and without stilts and suspended chalets built 3m above the floor on eucalyptus columns. The charming decoration has regional materials and artisanal products, some of which were made by the B&B’s own employees, this enriches the location.

With constant year-round wind, Jericoacoara is a paradise for the lovers of kite and windsurfing. In the Vila Kalango B&B, you find the Ticowind Jeri School, where you may learn these sports, as well as surfing and stand up paddle.

INTERVIEW
  • 1) What was the inspiration for creating the project/design of the hotel?

Nature and the charm of Jeri, being a fisherman’s village with a heavenly beach which, at the time, was unexplored. It all began with the love 2 of the partners felt for sport and found the perfect location to kite surf and relax. We wanted the B&B to integrate into the region and for it not to be a construction which would get in the way of the local atmosphere.

    2) Which are the main differentials the hotel offers?

The biggest differential the Vila Kalango offers is that it bases itself on four pillars; sea, wind, native and poetry. And they talk to the nature around it. The sea and wind are linked to sport and the sensation of experiencing something unique, a little more radical, typical of the region, which are Kite and wind surfing.

Inside the B&B there is a windsurf school, with an excellent structure for you to learn or practice sailing, as well as other aquatic sports such as SUP, surfing and Kayak.

The native part is linked to the contact we have with the people who live on Jeri and the region. As well most of the staff being native, because we believe that everything comes out with a lot more love and affection, the B&B has always been involved in community projects, such as waste recycling and helps street animals.

The poetry is a pillar which links itself to all the others cited above, because all that we do has a charm of its own, respecting the environment, offering an essential experience.

Since the initial project, we gave thought to how the B&B could be totally integrated into nature, respecting the living beings that live there, but with the charm and comfort of a 5 star establishment, being able to offer a unique and differentiated experience to each of our customers, from a sunset with the Por do Sol dune beside your accommodation, to unique beach event projects.

    3) How have trousseau products added value to the hotel?

The accommodation is one of the essential parts of a hotel. Being able to guarantee an ideal rest so that each customer can enjoy the next day in a unique manner is part of our strategy, and therefore, the Trousseau bed and bath products is a differential to be able to achieve this objective in its entirety.

    4) Which activities and outings are most sought after in the region? which are offered by the hotel?

The Por do Sol dune is one of the most well-known outings. Most people walk to the dune on the beach, there is easy access and doesn’t cost anything. The Vila Kalango is located beside this dune. 3 other outings which are very popular are: Pedra Furada, the tour to the Azul and Paraiso lakes, and Tatajuba. All are very beautiful, for they have an incredible view of the region. All these outings are offered by the B&B.

    5) If you had only 72 hours in jericoacoara, what would you recommend doing and see?

First day, check in, install yourself in the accommodation and take a walk on the beach in the opposite direction of the Por do Sol Dune. You will reach the end of the beach in about 20 minutes and will begin to climb a sandy path in front of the shops and other hotels. There you will find a grass covered area where you may sit and appreciate the view. Walking for another 20 minutes you will reach Pedra Furada. It is beautiful to see the sunset from there.

After you return, have dip in the B&B’s pool to relax, because the temperature becomes very amenable at that time, after that have a stroll around the Jeri village. It is very close to the B&B and has food, artisanal products and typical things from the region. It is incredible to see that around there, there is sand even inside the shops. It is super natural, and you can walk around barefoot.

On the second day, make the trip to Tatajuba, it is a little further away than the others and you should leave early to see everything. The view of the trip on the buggy is incredible both coming and going. Untouched dunes and beaches. You can feel the swing and breeze of the region passing through the Mangue Seco, appreciate the view of the sea which changes colour as the trip progresses. You can try the ski sled on one of the dunes and see beautiful images, as well as getting to know the history of that region.

Upon arrival, try taking a windsurf lesson, it is a new and incredible experience which everyone loves. There is still time to have a sunset drink offered by the hotel, and climb the Por do Sol Dune to sit and relax watching the sun kiss the sea in the horizon.

On the last day try to leave quite early and head to the Azul and Paraiso lakes. Both are beautiful, it is worth seeing them and having a dip there!
